Quiet On Set .
Personally I'm a fan of the old Mechanical Display System - the movement, the contrast, the way the light reflects off of each letter/pixel on refresh. Call it nostalgia if you will, I'll stick with "perfectly imperfect". Unfortunately many people aren't fans of the noise they make, and as a result many locations have replaced them with LCD versions. It's disheartening but, with my past experience designing and installing home theaters, I may have found a way around it.
Modifying existing mechanical displays to produce not only their traditional noise, but cancellation control noise, reduces the effect of sound created by the display. Similar to the way that noise cancellation headphones work - by producing waveforms that cancel out unwanted audio. By doing this we can run the displays more frequently with minimal annoyance to passers-by.
